"Housatonic": Originally, the word was "Ousatonic," which means, "Place Beyond the Mountains." This was later anglicized to Housatonic, the name of the river, the town, and our railroad. The original railroad was incorporated in 1836 as The Ousatonic Railroad Company, and the incorporation makes reference to the Ousatonic River as a landmark. Pictures of Our Trains:
